Image Processing:
Image Processing is a method to perform some mathematical operation on image in order to get an enhanced image or to extract some useful features from that image. It is a type of signal processing in which the input is image or video frame and the output may be image or characteristics or features associated with that image.
For example, if the task is to detect the students' faces in an image, then you first need to have an image that contains the students and their faces are shown in the image. Next you need to perfrom some mathematical operation on that image in order to extract some useful facial features from that image. After you extract the facial features from the image, then it is very easy to detect the students' faces in that particular image.
Nowadays, image processing is among rapidly growing technologies. It forms core research areas within engineering and computer sciences disciplines too.
Applications of Image Processing:
Image Processing has a vast range of applications in the real world. The following are some most prominent application of image processing.
- Biometric (like face detection, face recognition, iris recognition and fingerprint recognition)
- Automatic Character Recognition
- Clinical application
- Fire detection and object detection
- Industrial applications
- Remote sensing
